We all have something called a setpoint weight. That's the weight that is natural for our bodies and the one we have if we intuitively follow our hunger and fullness cues.
Now if your relationship to food is complicated, your setpoint weight is most likely not maintained. This could be a weight that is higher or lower than your current one; this is largely determined by what your current relationship is to food. Under the complicated umbrella you can find the likes of yoyo dieting, eating disorders and over-eating.
Now that I've made more peace with myself and healed large parts of my relationship to food, my weight is on the lower side of the spectrum. That wasn't always the case, but because of my good genes and metabolism, no one could guess I was a huge emotional over-eater.
Eating disorders are usually deeply ingrained in a person's psyche, so they usually require a combination of psycho-therapy, nutritional guidance or coaching. Not every case requires a triple whammy but I'd warmly recommend seeking some type of support to finally find food freedom. Speaking of experience, it feels really good.
